There are some hard working people in the world; putting in countless hours, and are pretty much married to their career. Personal time is all but lost and the things they loved and enjoyed go by the wayside. What starts to define them is the job and soon all they can identify with is what they do at work. After a while, what’s the point? If all we do is work then when are we actually living life?
When I was younger, my uncle used to tell me that I needed to “work to live, not live to work”. I couldn’t really grasp what he was talking about; but as time went by, it became very clear. Jobs are a way for us to support ourselves and make the things we enjoy doing possible. It’s a very big plus to enjoy our job and makes life that much better; however, in the end, it’s just a job. There are differences between work and hobby even if you happen to really enjoy your job. With work, you have to do the job regardless if you want to or not and in time this makes the task at hand start to lose its luster. With a hobby, you chose to do this wether you have to or not for no other reason than you enjoy doing it.
Seeing the world out there in this day and age, with all the things to do and the opportunity to do them makes it easy for me to decide what I want. I can easily say that I work to live and not the other way around. How are you spending all your time? Do you live to work like so many others or do you work to live?
