Watching some of the most gifted and talented people of the world squander their chance to make a mark on the world has to be one of the most frustrating things in the world. With all the avenues of approach and opportunities to capitalize on, the majority of everyone is completely underutilized with what they have to offer. On the flip side of that coin, the majority of everyone always complains about how overworked and run down they are. Just going through the motions to make it is one way to skate though life but certainly not the best way to live it. There is some shared responsibility for this with the people we choose to work for and the systems set up for the way we assimilate into society; but the overall responsibility for anyones life and their choices, ultimately lies with each individual them-self.
There is always some compromise when it comes to working, keeping your head above water and surviving. With adulthood comes the responsibility of self reliance and independence; and there is no shame in any honest work to achieve that. Its the point at which you accept that life and lose the ambition to achieve more professionally or personally, that you’ve failed yourself and given up on any aspirations of truly making a mark on the world. I can say, without any doubt in my mind, that I have not yet reached where I want to be; but I will never settle for any less or stop working to get it. There have been miraculous inventions contributions and discoveries made by some of the most amazing minds that hold no great positions or sway in the world. With all the success stories and tangible proof out there, its hard to grasp the self doubt so many people carry around.
Don’t get me wrong, Im not saying that this has to be some huge moneymaking business or amazing work of art. It could be anything that you dedicate yourself to and help change for the better. Small projects set you up for bigger projects and bigger projects set you up for even greater projects. Raise the bar for yourself and don’t settle for anything less.
Knowing where I’m at in the world and where I eventually want to be helps me obtain my goals. Every time I reach one goal I set another one thats even harder to achieve because I know that the only thing stopping me is the work and dedication needed to get there.
What about you? Are you where you want to be? If not, what are you doing to get there? Time to self-check by differentiating between the obstacles to overcome, and the excuses holding you back.
