Looking at all the bad things in life that we hold onto, it’s surprising how many things we refuse to let go. When is the last time you’ve done this with all the other garbage you collect? Can’t really imagine too many people embracing the stench and aesthetic of rotting garbage all around their house and cars. If you do, gross and take out the trash but if you’re part of the majority, it is completely unheard of. Now if you wouldn’t embrace the rot in your home, why would you allow the garbage to stay, fester and spread in your own mind? When we hold onto the negative aspects and emotions, it doesn’t just stay put and hide. Nothing that we embrace can sit idle in our minds for too long, because after we grow as a person, the person we become starts to reevaluate the things we never worked through. The good things can become better and by contrast, the bad things can get a whole lot worse. It starts to grow into other negative thoughts and will start to poison the good that is there. What stops us from working through something that’s there? Are we afraid to face it or are we just hardwired to pretend everything is good? One thing that I have come to believe with certainty is that you never get away from something without paying the tab. The question is do you want to pay it now and invest the least amount of mental and emotional energy or do you wait, letting it grow into something that’s far more difficult to deal with and overcome what it might have spawned into? How do you face the problems in your life? Do you welcome the conflict and deal with it straight off? Do you wait until you can’t run from it and the conflict is finally forced onto you by the problems you can’t outrun?
