What is it that makes us not only appreciate non-functional art but actually seek it out and decorate with? Chandeliers, statues, paintings and things of the sort. Why do we choose one lamp over another or have so many options when it comes to fixtures or accent in a home. Is this something we just find appealing to look at? Are we trying to tell a story and set a tone? Maybe it’s an extension of our own sense of personal style that we express through a certain aesthetic. If it is personal, then why is there such an outside influence on the way things are decorated or what we perceive to be stylish and expensive? Traveling the world, I’ve seen just how different the world decorates and what exactly they hold as standards of wealth and style.
