Walking around a university, looking at the architecture, I was brought in by the sight of this row of brick pillars. Funny to think about in the moment when you think about the pillars of our society. What exactly is a model citizen or a background to be proud of? Do you look at someone different when you find our they have a degree or maybe you look at someone different whey you find out they don’t? What about licenses or follow on graduate level education? Does it matter what the field is or the school they earned their degree through? I’ve dealt with a whole lot of educated idiots in my life and I’m sure you have too. This shouldn’t bother me and we can always strive to be better but I hate dealing with someone who is well educated without any street smarts or common sense. I swear it takes days or years off of my life every time I have to break-down or over-explain something to someone who should be letting me know at a higher level of understanding. I say this with the utter most disrespect as possible. Maybe its just bad experiences with people who lean on their degree and hold it over my head in the past that has left a sore spot. If someone is condescending to me over education or status, they need to really watch what they say and do around me. That degree and sentiment will forever be used, in every question, about anything stupid you do in my presence. Either way, I judge or hold someone in higher regard based off of the kind of person they are to and around me. My grandfather was a janitor in a school across the street from him and my grandmother was a cafeteria cook and server in the same school. They are and will forever will be held in the highest respect with the people in their neighborhood by the people who knew them. Good people who helped anyone that needed it and refused to allow themselves to be anything less than the best they could be. To me, that mindset is what builds a society and helps keep it moving forward. What about you? What is needed for someone to be a pillar of society? Are you worthy or lacking?
