Looking up into some of the most amazing sunsets and sunrises, it isn’t hard to understand where certain belief systems came from. When you see something without any other kind of scientific understanding or if the sun disappears in the middle of the daytime only to reappear, you might start to question some things and accept that there is a higher power than yourself. My real question to all believers and non-believers is what if you’re wrong? With your belief system in place, what would happen, if after your entire life, there was actual proof that everything you held true was completely wrong. How much regret would you have in the way you lived? Does your belief system make you a better person and make news like this a complete wash? In believing in something have you gone against what you felt was right in order to subscribe to something that may not exist? I only ask because the entire reason of finding a higher power is to help give a type of humbling and overall perspective about how small we are in comparison to something bigger than we could ever be alone. Now, I do feel that there is some intrinsic values in certain beliefs but as with every other large group of people that come together over beliefs, there’s also a shit ton of hypocrisy. Please, no matter what you believe in, make sure you’re adding to the value of the world around you and try not to be an asshat. I’ve long been removed from any organized religions in the world and have just been living with the idea that you should try to do right by everyone and give back to people for no other reason than you can. A tangible act of kindness is a lot better for the world than watching someone suffer and passing judgment for an intangible being. What do you think? Should we try to be better people or conform into being the kind of people that only a group of authorities speaking on behalf of a deity, calls a good person?
