Nothing is funnier than listening to people argue about the proper-slang for things. In the military, especially overseas, these discussions ended up with a hasty grappling session and still no resolution. All in good fun but it was definitely an area of contention when you get a bunch of people from different walks of life together to accomplish something. In a professional environment, do you actively try to reduce the amount of slang and colloquialisms? Are you actively listening so that if something comes up, you can still understand out of context? So many of the problems we face, especially in the digital age where written text is probably exchanged more than verbal exchanges. It’s s a lot easier to read and understand the context of what they say when you see facial expressions and mannerisms. The way we inflect our words, the tempo and tone of it is all removed; replaced with only one way to read it without prior context or a good idea of the persons personality already. What do you say? Is it a coke, pop or soda?
