Looking at the way I treat my animals has given me a different perspective on the way I should treat myself. Treats are a reward for solving a puzzle, doing something right or obeying a command. I’ve always tried to keep their minds stimulated and for good reason. People who don’t use their mind and challenge themselves on a daily basis start to regress in thought and creativity. Problem solving and creating are a great way to get new perspectives on things that are not even related. You start to learn how to think and not what to think but you get the added benefit of the speed at which you do so. Those little games you play on your phone, where you have to navigate yourself through a series of moves to get the desired sequence or grouping help to work through big picture problems while solving the macro to get there. Puzzle games are fun but what about riddles or even competitive games like chess or checkers. Why is it that games that make you think forward and strategize have lasted as long as they have? We crave the stimulation the way we crave water when we’re thirsty. It’s is something that our body need to feel fulfilled and continue growing in life. What is your favorite brain game or challenge? How do you stimulate the creative side of life? When is the last time you put serious effort into making a good piece of art in any medium? How did it make you feel while you were doing it and how do you feel now looking back at it?
